Tips to check engine condition of a used car

I am living in Etobicoke. I was planning to buy a used Golf. 3 days back one of my friend told me about one car. We will go tomorrow to check the condition of the car. We didn't have much knowledge in automotive field. I am just considering the condition of engine. That is my first priority. Somebody please tell me some tips to check the engine condition. Or should I seek help of any workshops who provide car engine repairs in Etobicoke.

Most cars actually need to go through inspection so that it can be certified before sale. You should be asking the seller if he has already gotten his car checked out. You can also just look at the mileage on the car and see how far its travelled. It should give you a good indication on how used the car is.
